An Update…

Thank you for visiting this site and reading my post, it is nice that people are interested in what I am doing! No idea why you may be interested but I am grateful for your visit!!!

I just realised that my last post was back in May, seems such a short time ago yet, so long ago! I posted that I had taken possesion of the Newlyn house and described some of the plans that I had for the renovations.

I actually moved in to the house in August – bit of a surprise move, even for me! In July I got Covid and it really knocked me out for ages, I was stuck at home on my own, and whilst the view from my bedroom over the Green was lovely, I just realised that an open sky and ocean view was the best medicine. Plus, the fact that Rajiv and Tayla were ‘camping out’ in the house and were available to help with the move, I just went for it!

I put the Leslie Avenue house on the market and it sold pretty much straight away, so I decided just to take the plunge and move to Newlyn! I did not like the thought of living between 2 places – too nomadic, even for me!

It was lovely to be able to have Rajiv and Tayla for company in the first few days, obviously for helping to unpack, but also to not feel alone in a new place. Having said that, I have felt very much at home from the start!

I have been speaking to the architect and I have some prelim designs and, as I am sure you can imagine, the designs are different to my initial thoughts! There will be minimal structural changes as there is more than enough space for me in the current footprint, this will allow me to use the bulk of the budget to really make the most of the space, fantastic views and the light.

I have not really pushed the architect to complete the designs as I really want to consider what I really want, what will work and how best to configure the space to suit.

Another reason for not progressing on the design is because I went to Indonesia and Maylasia!! I was due to go on a gulet cruise in Greece in July but Covid got in the way and I had to cancel. I always think that things happen for a reason and this is one of those occasions. Rajiv and Tayla had decided to do more travelling and suggested that I meet them in Bali in September. I did double check with them as I did not want to disturb their travels, but they assured me that they did want me to join in!!

I decided that to go all that way for a week was silly so I said that I would travel around Indonesia for a bit and then meet up with them in Bali, and coordinate dates. I took 2 weeks annual leave from work plus bought a week of extra leave as my wonderful boss agreed that 2 weeks would not do the trip justice. I looked around and found a 2 week tour of Java and Bali that fit in with dates, with Explore Travel who I have travelled with before. I spoke to Rajiv and it turned out that they were looking at the same trip!!

The map above is the trip we were on and it was just amazing. I am going to end this post now but will add more soon. In the meantime, I will add some pictures as I am unable to adequately describe what we saw and did!

  2. Lovely to hear all about your great trip Nisha (a bit further away than Egypt!). Also good to get some background on your new home. Why Newlyn? Great part of the world but quite a long way to go.
